Unit Introduction

This unit introduces you to data visualisation design both technically and conceptually building upon the long established practice of information design. You will interrogate selected data sets and produce interactive visualisations that enhance understanding and communication. You will also be introduced to the ethical dimension of data collection and asked to consider your intentions and responsibility when selecting and visually representing data.

You will be introduced to forming and managing data sets and prepare them to be visualised. This unit will revisit design methods and processes that will help you to create meaningful outcomes driven by data. You will use existing platforms and tools for data manipulation and visualisation and be encouraged to develop your own solutions through code as well as other tools.

This unit is taught through a series of workshops and set project briefs that will develop your technical skills as well as introduce you to the common vocabulary of data visualisation design and build.
